Hello Customers, Colleagues, and Friends…
In our efforts to provide the highest quality service and best possible rates to our customers, Krenz & Hannan decided last year to become an NVOCC in 2024. An NVOCC is a non-vessel operating common carrier for ocean freight shipments. We applied for and have been granted our NVOCC license under the name Lions Ocean Transport.
What does this mean for you, our customer?
We’re excited to share that our new NVOCC certification enhances our ability to serve you with even greater flexibility. This certification allows us to expand our LCL consolidation schedules, contract directly with carriers, and offer you additional options to meet your needs, along with access to even more competitive pricing. In addition to these service and rate upgrades, you will see a few other changes.
Shipments will move on our Lions Ocean Transport Bills of Lading whenever possible. Keep in mind there will be a transition period in which shipments will continue to move on our NVO partners Bill of Lading. This provides additional security as we are the carrier and you will be included under our limited liability coverage as well as our All-Risk door-to-door cargo insurance if you opt for this coverage. There is an additional fee for full coverage insurance, but it is less than 1% of the value of the goods for most commodities. We highly recommend that all importers, exporters and domestic shippers utilize this coverage or ensure you have your own full coverage policy. General business liability insurance does not cover cargo.

As an NVOCC, we are required by the FMC (Federal Maritime Commission) to notify customers of our rates prior to shipment. Please note that this applies only to ocean shipments that discharge/depart at a U.S. port. We will be utilizing NRAs (Negotiated Rate Agreements) , which is FMC terminology, to advise customers of our rates for each shipment. Please note that the NRA pricing is the port-to-port or cfs-to-cfs ocean freight. It does not include the origin or destination charges that may apply to your shipment.
To simplify this process, we have designed the attached form so that it can also be used as a comprehensive quote form. Depending on the Incoterms of your shipment, origin and/or destination charges may be listed on the quote. However, as indicated on the form, unless otherwise noted, only the ocean freight (port-to-port or cfs-to-cfs) charges are covered under the NRA. If the ocean freight pricing changes after the NRA is issued we will send you an updated NRA which will reflect that updated pricing.
No additional action is required by your company. Thank you for your continued business and partnership.
